    The drains will often become clogged up with fallen debris and debris that’s blown over from other gardens. Not only that but often enough, your drains become an enjoyable nesting space for a lot of wildlife.


    While you don’t want to disturb that wildlife, it’s good to prevent them from seeing it as an ideal nesting spot in the first place. That means maintaining your drains and keeping them clear of debris as often as you can get up there.


    It might not be something you do yourself and instead, you may want to get professionals out to clear the drains for you. Your gutters are also a key part of keeping water off your property and if they become clogged, they could impact your property’s foundations.

    Check the roof

    The roof is another place that needs checking but this one is often a little more difficult to get to or access.


    If you do have a loft space available, then you can always do a check of the roof from up there. The roof internally should be well insulated and have no gaps or cracks. If you spot that there’s insulation that’s fallen or missing, or obvious signs of a compromised roof, then it’s best to get this fixed as soon as possible.

    Sweep the chimney

    While many new homes no longer come with a chimney, it’s an important part of a lot of older homes and therefore needs your attention.


    Again, it’s quite a dated feature in the home nowadays but if you do have a fireplace, it’s good to be mindful of how well you maintain it. Regardless of whether it’s used or not, a chimney service might be handy to have.

    Windows and doors are the vulnerable parts of the home because if they become compromised, someone unwanted could easily get in. That’s why it’s a good idea to check your windows and doors, just in case there are any compromised areas.


    If you’ve noticed warping or a draft coming in from your doors or windows, then it’s a good idea to get them replaced sooner rather than later.

    Assess any gaps or cracks in the foundations

    Gaps and cracks are going to leave your home vulnerable to all manner of pests and wildlife. You will also leave it vulnerable to water damage if they’re not sealed up properly.
